Enterprise Architecture (EA) is a disciplined approach to building a knowledge repository that is used to understand and communicate how the enterprise currently works, and how it should work to enable strategic objectives.

EA value comes from providing a common reference for understanding:

  • The enterprise today (Current State) across its Business, Information, Application and Technology layers.
  • What the enterprise is intended to be tomorrow (Future State).
  • The impact of changes to the enterprise across the 4 layers.

The EA is utilised to:

  • Identify opportunities for change (simplification or enhancement)
  • Govern changes (projects or operational) with respect to the intended direction of the enterprise (Future State).

EA is fluid by nature incorporating ongoing tactical changes against the current state and incorporating strategic drivers (enterprise or market) against the future states.

Oakton’s EA capabilities have been developed through years of experience developing solutions for some of the most difficult and challenging problems facing our clients. Our Enterprise Architecture consultants, frameworks, approaches and deliverables are tailored to address specific business questions our customers need answers to. The core philosophy underpinning Oakton’s approach to any Enterprise Architecture engagement is being able to show a clear ‘line of sight’ between technology decisions and business outcomes.

Effective PMOs add value by creating an environment that is conducive to project/program/portfolio success.  Our PMO Process closely aligns to the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) Portfolio, Program and Project Office (P3O) model and is derived from our considerable experience in establishing and operating PMOs. We take a staged approach to establishing a PMO and focus on governance, business alignment, PM practices, standards and guidelines, resource management and PMO operations.

Key to Oakton’s approach to developing and managing a PMO is to structure the composition and focus of the roles within the PMO to provide 360-degree coverage: ‘upward-looking’ roles that produce project/program-wide information and reporting and provide overall management and guidance of the PMO and project/program, ‘downward-looking’ roles that undertake project assessments and provide a process assurance function for projects, and PMO Process roles that undertake the process-oriented activities such as information management, configuration management, resource planning, report aggregation and managing the quality assurance process.

Oakton has provided project management services for over 20 years to large corporate and government projects and programs.  Oakton has methodology, consultants and a track record of applying rigorous and adaptable project management expertise to major projects.   Oakton’s approach to project management focuses on ensuring that the project is managed within the agreed tolerances, expectations are set correctly throughout the project and as change is implemented the business is prepared. Oakton uses its own methodology – the Project Management Framework (PMF) based on PMBoK and PRINCE2 - and adapts it to suit the client project environment and the scale and structure of the program/project. Our PMF has a specific emphasis on Risk Management, Project Change Management, Vendor Management, Stakeholder Management and Communication, Organisation Change Management, Integration (with the client organisation and other projects and programs), Issue Management and Status Reporting.

Oakton has strong experience in the analysis and development of solution architecture for complex IT projects.
