Data Support (Information)

Oakton’s offering comprises a Data Support (Information) managed service for the operational maintenance, support, performance tuning and usage monitoring of some or all of the following:

  • The data movement (ETL) aspects of your Data Warehouse (DW) environment

  • The data storage (consolidated repository; data mart) aspects of your DW environment

  • The user interface, Business Intelligence (BI) aspects of your DW environment

  • Support activities of impact analysis, metadata management, scheduling, reconciliations

DW Management aims to:

  • reduce the support costs associated with the DW environment

  • re-direct knowledgeable in-house business and IT staff from repetitive DW support activities, to expanding the scope of the DW environment, which leads improved benefits realisation (i.e. improve the bottom line)

  • avoid the investment in specialised training for a selected number of your staff (including back-up support)

  • improve the reliability , availability and ongoing performance of the DW environment

There are three models for DWS, each differing in the degree of retained in-house support:

  • End-To-End Model – the support of the complete DW environment, from the source systems to the business deliverables

  • Data Centric Model – the support of the DW environment up to the point of the reports and analytical tools (i.e. covers all data bases and Extract-Transform-Load [ETL] processes)

  • Consolidated Data Model – the support of the DW environment up to the consolidated repository (i.e. covers the consolidated repository data base, and the ETL processes required to populate this repository from the range of source systems)
